Committees
Like most nonprofits, Astra operates lean with only a small support staff. How are we able to accomplish so much? The talented and dedicated volunteer members of our committees make a huge difference. Our committees are open to participation from both our corporate and women-owned business members.
Marketing Committee
The volunteer members of the Marketing Committee serve as Astra’s official storytellers. Their job includes communications planning and promoting the benefits of Astra membership through fresh, interesting marketing projects and materials. The committee also protects the integrity of the Astra brand by ensuring consistency of tone and voice across all Astra materials. In addition to inviting the participation of our Astra corporate and women-owned business members, the Marketing Committee is also open to non-certified women-owned businesses as well.
Development Committee
Our Development Committee is responsible for recruiting new corporate and government agency members, and delivering a quality experience that makes them want to stay. The Development Committee helps our corporate and agency members grow their programs through mentorship and networking with their peers at special events designed for their education. The committee also helps identify new fundraising opportunities, which provide financial support for all of Astra’s programs.
Certification Committee
The Certification Committee oversees one of our most important jobs: making recommendations on applications submitted by women-owned businesses who are seeking certification. This includes reviewing applications, conducting site visits and managing the appeals process for anyone whose certification is denied. The Certification Committee is open to both Astra Corporate and women-owned business members and requires a 4-hour online training by WBENC to qualify.
Program Committee
Program Committee members are the architects of the events, programs and training initiatives that lead to breakthrough moments for our members. Our events include matchmaker conferences, international business summits, networking events, supplier diversity training for corporations, and a whole lot more.
Leadership Forum Committee
The Leadership Forum Committee serves as a liaison to WBENC to make sure the concerns and interests of local communities are represented at a national level. Learn more about activities conducted by the Leadership Forum. The committee also tracks the number of Done Deals completed by women-owned businesses and Astra’s corporate and agency members. A sub-committee also focuses on retention of our women-owned business members by providing new member orientation, conducting surveys and planning events throughout our territory.
